The Way, the Truth and the Life Series, Part 2 – The Way
elcome to part 2 of our mini-series. Jesus made a clear declaration to his disciples saying that “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Notice, there are two parts of this declaration, the second part confirms that He is the only way anyone can come to God. This obviously offends a lot of people because they think that there are many ways or paths to God. Let’s get right to it and see why Jesus Christ is the one and only way.
Several Religions and World Views
It is important that you follow that right path, a narrow path, the one and only way to God. As you may know, there are many religions with so many belief systems in the word today. Sadly, the path these religions guide people is the broad way, it is misleading, actually a complete separation from God. Watch this:
- Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it (Matthew 7:13-14).
There are not many ways but only one way and that is through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Steps to the Right Path
Jesus taught us the way to God. Here listen,
- “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
The will of the Father is for us to be sincerely faithful to Christ (John 3:16). Good deeds or being a nice person alone is not sufficient. Believing and accepting Jesus Christ whole heartedly is the requirement.
In part 1, we learnt that Jesus is the truth. It was important to know who Jesus really is because not too many people do; yes even those who ‘go to church’ have no idea. Jesus said, my sheep know me (John 10:27). We follow the right path by following the truth, the good shepherd (John 10:11).
We also follow Jesus because He is God incarnate, watch this:
- And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory (1 Timothy 3:16).
Jesus also tells us that
- “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
Furthermore, we follow the path of the Messiah take a look:
- For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
Jesus asked
- “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:15-16).
Key Takeaways:
Understand, Overstand and Innerstand
Let me reiterate: Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to God. Jesus is the only way for us to be saved (salvation) from sin so we can be reunited (redeemed) with our Father. God loves us and He wants us to live an eternal life with Him in heaven. So you need to make the right choice, choose the right path, choose the truth, choose Christ.
Making the right choice can sometimes be challenging, I want to encourage you to put all your trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. This is one of my favorite passages on how to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ regardless of your belief system:
