Attributes of God – Part 12: God’s Glory
e have reached the 12th attribute of God, the final part of our series. However, there are more than just twelve as you should know by now. Our goal for this series is hope that you may know God, who He is, what He is, and much more because that is how we become closer to him.
“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words”(1 Corinthians 2:13).
What is God's Glory?
God’s glory is a manifestation of his almighty power, grandeur, beauty, presence, holiness, goodness, his love, etc., and actually cannot be separated from his other attributes. Watch this:
- “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20).
God’s Glorious Power
- Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all (1 Chronicles 29:11).
- Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! (Psalm 24:7-8).
- I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols (Isaiah 42:8).
- Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created (Revelation 4:11).
God’s Glorious Presence
- It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal (Revelation 21:11).
- and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of many waters, and the earth shone with His glory (Ezekiel 43:2).
God’s Glorious Holiness
Isaiah’s vision of the Lord:
And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isaiah 6:3).
Moses said,“Now show me your glory.”
And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”Then the Lord said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen” (Exodus 33).
Jesus Christ is God’s Glory
Christ is a physical manifestation of God’s glory. Watch this:
- The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:14).
- The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word (Hebrews 1:3).
- The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God (2 Corinthians 4:4).
- Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father ( Philippians 2:9-11).
Key Takeaways:
Understand, Overstand and Innerstand
First, Jesus Christ is the perfect physical manifestation of God’s glory. Therefore, it is easier to understand God’s glory through his Son Jesus Christ. The attributes we have covered so far, are a sign of how glorious our heavenly Father is.
- So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:18).
