Attributes of God – Part 10: God’s Eternity

W

elcome to Part 10 of this series. This series has been made possible by the grace of our Lord so you may ‘know Him’. If you have learnt something through this series please let us know through comments below, website, and any social media platform. Let’s find out what God’s eternity truly means by digging deeper into scripture.

“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words”(1 Corinthians 2:13).

Who Created God?

Where did God come from? Does He have a mother? These are common questions that we will answer.

  1. The Almighty God of the bible is spirit, not created, unlimited, always existed, and everlasting.
  2. Since God has always existed, he cannot have a mother. There is no such thing as mother of God or God's mother.

Unfortunately, most people try to figure out God’s existence through their limited intellect, existential philosophy, common sense, theoretical thought or logic. It’s not going to happen. “No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began” (1 Corinthians 2).

  • God commands things into existence – “let there be light”
  • God manifests into a human being with physical existence – Jesus Christ
  • God is everywhere - omnipresent

Look, God is not affected by time, space and matter. There is none like Him, He is Holy.

God’s Eternity

  • “From eternity to eternity I am God” (Isaiah 43:13).
  •  “I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8).
  •  “From everlasting I was established, From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth”. (Proverbs 8:23).
  • Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2).

Christ’s Eternity

First, follow me carefully as we deduce the Truth. Jesus is the eternal Word of God This is what the scripture tells us about Jesus Christ: “God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (1 Timothy 3:16, John 1:14). Christ came to earth so we may have an eternal life with God. So, God wants us to live an eternal life! Watch this:

  • If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him” (John 14:7)
  • This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (John 17:3).
  • Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8:58).

Furthermore, the book of John as shown in the scripture passages above, clearly show that Jesus Christ is in fact God Almighty who always existed.

  • “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)

Key Takeaways:

Understand, Overstand and Innerstand

Remember, you will not figure out God's eternal existence with human wisdom alone. It requires God's wisdom.

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:13-14).

Finally, in closing:

Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight
