The Way, the Truth and the Life Series, Part 3 – The Life
e are pleased to present you Part 3, the final part of our exciting mini-series. In John 14:6 Jesus declared that “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me”. He went on to say that “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). But earlier on, in John 6:48 Jesus also said “I am the bread of life”. You see, Jesus was using metaphors to tell us something important here, and it is absolutely crucial we understand his teaching. In, Part 3 we will focus on how Jesus Christ is the Life by examining those passages to fully understand what He meant. Let’s get right to business (God’s business) and break down scripture for clarity - glory to God!
What is “The Life”?
Jesus is the eternal life, a free gift from God to us. Someone will say, but how is Jesus Christ a gift and why choose him, why can’t I just be a good person to be accepted in heaven.
We are all born with sin due to Adam, and since then we got separated from God (Romans 5:12, 3:23). God loves us and wants us to reunite with Him so look:
- “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
God sent Jesus Christ to wash away all our sins,
- Jesus said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me” (John 6:38).
- “For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:40).
How is Jesus the Life?
Jesus told us that He is the bread of life right? Listen carefully, He was telling us that we need him just as much as we need food to survive, as simple as that.
In addition, Jesus also gave us a clear example how he holds everything together by being the vine and everyone else as a branch (John 15:5). He goes on to say that "apart from me you can do nothing," why?
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together (Colossians 1:17).
We are dealing with the Creator here my friends because: all things have been created through him and for him (Colossians 1:16). Jesus is the eternal, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), do you understand that my brothers and sisters?
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 8:6, that
And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.
So you see, everything in this universe, all birds, all trees, all animals, the moon, the sun, the water and us people, exist through Jesus Christ.
How do we get Eternal Life?
That’s a good question which deserves a good answer so watch this: John said,
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:12).
This is what it means; we receive eternal life by accepting and believing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus focused His ministry on the Kingdom of God/Heaven. He taught us through parables how we can have an eternal life in heaven with the Almighty Father. Take a look at our series on the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus taught this:
Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” (John 6:47-51)
This is what it means:
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him (John 3:36). This passage is essentially talking about faith in Christ, click on the link to learn more.

God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. - Acts 4:12
Key Takeaways:
Understand, Overstand and Innerstand
When Jesus talks about being the bread of life, he is talking about Himself as our spiritual nourishment through the Word of God (Matthew 4:4). We cannot do anything without Him, we cannot go to heaven or live an eternal life without Christ. Jesus Christ is our savior, the truth and the life and "God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
– Glory to God!
But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory (1 Corinthians 2:7).
