Armor of God, Part 4: Helmet of Salvation
his is about protecting the mind. The enemy plays with your mind so you can turn away from the gift of salvation, from Jesus and from God. Your head is just as important as other vital organs such the heart which is protected by the breastplate. In order to better understand how salvation and the helmet are connected, we need clarity on what salvation is, in the first place. Once we get a clear understanding, we will know how to use it effectively against the enemy.
What is Salvation?
Let’s discuss a little about salvation in the context of the armor of God. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear about the word salvation is "saved". But let’s see what the bible says:
- The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:30).
- Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Now we know that salvation comes through Jesus. It is spiritual, just as the helmet we are talking about, is spiritual.
Salvation a Gift?
Let's find out what the scripture tells us:
- “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
- “But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification” (Romans 5:15).
Helmet Requirement?
Okay, now that we have established that salvation is a gift through Christ who Himself is a gift (John 3:16). So far, this means that...
- The Shield of Faith (Part 1),
- The Breastplate of Righteousness (Part 2),
- Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace (Part 3)
- and currently The Helmet of Salvation (Part 4).
..are in fact all gifts from God through Jesus Christ. Notice, Christ is always an absolute requirement and we cannot be granted these gifts without Him.
The Helmet in Action
In the Old Testament, Goliath had been tormenting the Israelites for 40 days and nights. David did not let this get to his head, but instead, he put on the Helmet of Salvation. How, watch this: David was one hundred percent certain that God would protect him. David said to the enemy:
“I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head"
David was confident about defeating the enemy in the name of the Lord Almighty, so you too can confidently declare the power of God when you are in facing the enemy. The scriptures say:
“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways" (Deuteronomy 28:7).
Do not let the enemy taunt you, discourage you, and deceive you like Goliath. Stand firm and declare the Word of God, protecting you mind.
Key Takeaways:
Understand, Overstand and Innerstand
Finally, I want to encourage you today that God is ready to protect you and grant you these gifts. Listen to what the bible says:
And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see (1 Peter 1:5).
He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail (1 Samuel 2:9).
Check your armor, is it on right now? Your armor should always be on because the devil is relentless in his mission. Always keep praying, on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests, as it is written (Ephesians 6:18).
