et’s explore what the Kingdom of God is worth to us, how valuable it is. Most of us should be aware of the two well known parables Jesus taught us: The Parables of Hidden Treasure and the Parable of the Pearl found in Matthew 13:44. Here in the two parables, the hidden treasure and pearl are treated by the owner as extremely valuable, much more than anything the protagonist possesses. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:33 that:

“seek FIRST his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

As you can see, the scripture emphasizes “FIRST” meaning it is of utmost importance, the highest priority we take this step. Both owners of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl took drastic steps to show us how valuable the Kingdom of God is.

Keep in mind that the Kingdom of God is not of this world (John 18:36). So “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6: 19-20). This especially applies to what Jesus was teaching when he told the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21). Just like the Rich Fool, so many people get carried away and caught up chasing wealth, prosperity, riches, fame here on earth.

To make it worse, false preachers have turned to preach prosperity gospel, a perversion of the gospel used to exploit people. These false preachers / prophets are indeed sleek; they come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15). The false preacher lives an exorbitant lifestyle that many fall victim to because. The truth is, “the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well” (Luke 12:30-31).
