A Type of Christ, Part 5: Adam

T

he story of Adam and Eve is in Genesis chapters 2 and 3. God had just completed creating all heavens and the earth and rested on the seventh day.

God Creates Adam

Before there was rain or shrubs on earth, God created man from the dust of the ground. God breathed into the man who became a living being. God then planted a lush beautiful garden called Eden where he put Adam. All kinds of tees were also created including In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God went on to command Adam that:

“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

God Creates Eve

God also noticed that it was not good for the man to be alone so he created Eve as his helper. God took one of Adams ribs while he was in a deep sleep. Both lived naked without shame.

Eve is Deceived

A serpent, craftier than any other animal, convinced Eve to eat from the tree saying:

For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Soon after, Eve gave in to the serpent’s lies and ate fruit from the forbidden tree. She also gave it to her husband who ate it as well.  Their eyes became open and realized that they were naked and covered themselves.

God’s Curse on Adam

God soon found out what happened, so he cursed them and banished Adam from the Garden of Eden. Keep in mind that God had warned Adam that:

“..When you eat from it you will certainly die.”

But, did he die right away? We find out that Adam and Eve later had many children in Chatper 4. Chapter 5 confirms that Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died. Let’s take a look at some key contrasts between Adam And Christ:

Adam

1) From Dust

Adam was created from earth. "all come from dust, and to dust all return" (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

2) First Born

We know Adam is the first human being, so that makes him the firstborn of all humans and also the first parent on earth.

3) Has a Wife

From the story, we can tell that Moses is the middleman between God and his people.

4) Abundant Life

Adam lives in a garden full of abundance and prosperity

5) Serpent's Temptation

Adams wife, Eve, is tempted in the garden

6) Disobediant

Adam and Eve wanted more wisdom and a chance to be gods

7) Spiritual Death

Dies a spiritual death immediately, although he lived for 930 years.

The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)

8) Loses Favor with God

Loses favor with God – hides when God calls him  due to his nakedness

9) Death for All

Loses favor with God – banished from The Garden of Eden.

10) A living being

Adam is a living being.

Jesus

01) From Heaven

Unlike Adam, earth was created through Christ. Christ is from heaven (1 Corinthians 47).

02) First of All

Jesus Christ is Firstborn of all creations (Colossians 1:15)

03) Has a Bride

Jesus did not have a wife on earth but the church or “great city, the holy New Jerusalem, take on a symbolic meaning of Christ's bride.

“Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

REVELATION 21:9-11

04) Humble Life

Jesus lived a very humble life. He sometimes appeared in dry places such as the desert and was hungry at times.

Instead of showing off his bling..."he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness."

Philippians 2:7

05) Satan's Temptation

Jesus is tempted in the desert.

(Matthew 4:1-11)

06) Obedient

Rejects temptation and remained faithful because of his integrity. “Resist the devil and the devil will flee from you”

07) No Spiritual Death

Never dies spiritually, because:

"he who knew no sin was counted as sin in order that we might become the righteousness of God."

2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus is God.

08) Exalted by God

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

Philippians 2:9-11

09) Restores Life

Jesus removes sin

But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:10)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

10) The Last Adam

So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:45

Key Takeaways

T

he story of Adam and Eve is discouraging. The good news it that it has a good ending - The Last Adam! Even though we all face a physical death, we are encouraged to look forward to living an eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior (John 3:16).

This story reveals how cunning Satan is. It reveals how he can twist scripture and make it sound like a fact. So, be careful to make sure the Word you hear from so many preachers out there is the truth. Do your own due diligence by verifying what you are being taught, or told is the truth so check it out by yourself. False prophets know most people don’t study scripture on their own, so they  consistently twist the Word just like the serpent to lead people into a trap.
